Hello Fall

 

It's hard to think about Fall when it's 90 degrees out, but a girl can dream! And, I'm in full Fall decorating mode.

This Fall sign was so much fun to create... and easy!

A while back I shared a kitchen conversion sign that I made using a wood blank & wood mason jar from Signopoly...

I had more of the blanks & jars, so I came up with another cute use for them for my Fall decorating.

I painted the wood blank with the color Colonel Mustard from the Dixie Belle Paint Company. This will be the color of my letters.

I painted the mason jar with the color, Buttercream, then added a little detail with the color, Coffee Bean...

I cut out the words, hello Fall, in vinyl using my Cricut Maker...

I place the vinyl on the painted board, then painted over the entire board with the color, Coffee Bean. It took 2 coats for good coverage.

Once the paint was dry, I peeled up the vinyl to reveal the letters...

I used faux leaves from a Fall garland that I bought at Michael's. It was less expensive than buying stems & you get a lot more leaves. Plus, Fall items are already 40% off!

After gluing the mason jar onto the board using E6000, I  cut leaves from the garland & glued them on with tacky glue. I only put a dot of glue at the base of the leaves & at the tip of the leaf so they would remain 3D. I let some of the leaves overlap the top of the jar & secured with tacky glue. I had to place something heavy on the leaves to hold them in place until the glue dried.

A perfect new addition to my Fall decor...

Kitchen Conversion Sign

Maybe you're better than me at keeping it all stored in your head, but sometimes I need a little help with kitchen conversions. Of course, I remember the basics, but ask me the size of a dash or how many pints are in a quart and I may have to look it up.

So, I made a cute sign to keep the basics within eye shot.

I first stained a board with Dixie Belle's Voodoo Gel Stain in the color Denim. 

The board I used is from Signopoly.

This stain is water based so the clean up is easy & there's no odor. And, you don't have to wear gloves! 

While the stain was drying, I painted a wooden cutout of a mason jar (also from Signopoly) with Dixie Belle's paint color, Haint Blue. I used Silver Bullet with a little black detail for the lid.
I made a vinyl stencil that reads, kitchen conversions, with my Cricut Maker, then used the color Caviar to paint over it.

 I made another stencil with the conversion chart. I placed it on the board then painted over it with Dixie Belle's Clear Coat & let that dry. This will help create a barrier to prevent the paint from bleeding under the stencil.

 My favorite thing to stencil with is a makeup sponge! I used the color, Haint Blue for the chart.

 I used E6000 to glue the jar onto the board.

 Now the basic conversions are within eye shot!

That's A Wrap For Thanksgiving

It's time to wrap up your Fall decorating! 

There's still time to add to your Thanksgiving decor before your guests arrive. Especially with an easy project like this one. And, most likely, you have everything on hand to get started.

 Supplies:

 Jars or Other Glass Containers

Quotes or Art Printed on Your Home Computer

Tea

Pan Large Enough to Hold An 8.5 x 11 Piece Of Computer Paper

Tape

Twine

Glue

 Download or create graphics that will go on the jars. I created the graphics used here in PicMonkey. Print the graphics in landscape mode.

 Tear, don’t cut, the paper at least 1 ½ inches above the graphic, and at least ½ inch below the graphic. You’ll want to leave more space above the graphic than below.

 Steep some tea and pour it into a pan. Note: green tea will not be dark enough to properly stain the paper. Place the paper into the pan and allow the tea to stain the paper. It’s best to leave it overnight.

Remove the paper from the pan of tea and allow to dry.

 Add glue to the rim of the jar and wrap with twine. 

 Wrap the tea stained paper around the  jar and secure with tape on the back. You may also glue the paper to the jar, however, using tape allows you to easily change the wrap for each season.

 Use a piece of twine to tie a bow around the top section of the paper.

Fill the jar with Fall foliage, candles, candy, or display as is.

Where will you display your jars? They're perfect for just about anywhere, including your table or mantel.

Fall Solar Lights

From the time I started blogging, one of the easiest projects I have shared has remained one of the most viewed posts. I first published my Upcycled Pickle & Olive Jars back in 2012...

So, when Southern Holiday Life asked me a year ago to contribute a DIY project for their magazine, I decided to incorporate a new version of my popular jars. 
With tomorrow being the first day of Fall, I thought it was the perfect time to share my Fall Solar Lights.

Here's what you'll need:
Clean Jars
ModPodge
Patterned Paper Napkins
Paintbrush
Scissors
E6000 Glue
Jute
Solar Lights
Paint

Cut the napkin to fit around the jar where it will overlap slightly.

Napkins are typically 3 or 4 ply. Separate the layers so that you are left with only the layer with the pattern. If you don't separate the layers, the napkin won't adhere well to the jar.

Add a coat of ModPodge (or other decoupage medium) to the jar. Then add the napkin...

Add another coat of ModPodge over the napkin...

Set aside to dry.

Add E6000 to the rim of the jar and wrap with jute.

You could stop here and use them as they are, or add a candle...

Or you can take it a step further!

Remove the top of an inexpensive solar light...

Paint the light being careful not to cover the solar panel...

You could glue the light onto the jar, but I didn't. I just set it on top. This way I can easily change it. 

My jars have been on my back porch for a year now and are still working!
