The Christmas Chair

Remember my pumpkin chair? The one I painted for
The plan was to reupholster it. So, Cindy, the owner of Earth Mama's & the chair, bought some fabric. We got together and laid the fabric out to decide where to start cutting. And, as we looked at it with dread, Cindy said, "don't you want to just paint it again?" To which I said, "yes!" Upholstery is hard!
So, the pumpkin chair has been transformed to a Christmas chair. I simply painted over the pumpkins and turned them into ornaments.
The chair greets customers as they enter the store. Plus it gives the men a place to sit while their ladies shop!
Here's how the chair has progressed...
Hmmm... what will it be next?
Stay tuned. I have a feeling I'm not finished painting this chair. At least I have until January to decide what to do next.
Any ideas?

Industrial Cable Spool Snowman

She's done it again! My friend, Kelli, has dropped off more industrial cable spool ends for me. A few weeks ago I shared some projects that were made with the last batch of spool ends she gave me. You can see them HERE.

A few days ago, she brought me 9 more! YES NINE!!!
Oh, what to do?
It only took a minute to decide that at least one would become a snowman. Best of all, I had everything I needed to create him.

After I dry brushed the spool with white paint, I screwed on vintage drawer pulls for the eyes...

5 Ball jar lids became the mouth...

An old spool became the nose. With a little sanding down, it fit snugly into the center hole of the cable spool...

The hat was made using scrap pieces of pallet wood leftover from another project. A strip of plaid fabric added the final touch to the hat...

I have some ideas for the other 8 spools, but first maybe this snowman needs a snow woman!

IKEA Lantern Makeover

Add a beautiful touch of Fall to your decor with this easy
 DIY  lantern makeover.
The lantern I used came from IKEA, but any lantern will do.

Start by cutting a dinner napkin into 4 pieces...

Separate the napkin so that you only have the top layer with the pattern...

Cut the napkin slightly larger than the glass in the lantern. Coat the glass on the inside of the lantern with ModPodge...

Lay the napkin pattern side down on the ModPodge covered glass. Gently press the napkin down. Don't rub the napkin or it may tear. Give the napkin a coat of ModPodge...

I used a gold metallic enamel paint to tone down the black and make it coordinate with my Fall theme...

I didn't want the lantern to be a solid gold, so I used a damp paper towel to wash on the metallic paint...

The lantern could be used just like this, but I decided to add a little something to it...

I first glued on faux leaves using E6000...

Then I added some faux acorns...

All it needs now is a battery operated candle and I have a lantern that will add warmth and beauty to my home through Thanksgiving.
