DIY "Rust"ic Ornaments

It's beginning to look a lot like a "rust"ic Christmas!
Creating rust is easy with the Patina Collection from the Dixie Belle Paint Company.
I started with a plain wooden ornament. It had a red ribbon which I removed.
I gave the ornament a coat of Dixie Belle Paint. I used Barn Red, but the color doesn't matter because in the end it won't show. The patina needs something to grab onto, so that's why you can't skip this step.
To create rust, I used the Iron Patina Paint. It has metal in it which can settle, so I gave it a good shake then painted one coat of the iron paint onto the ornament.
I let the first coat of the Iron paint dry completely. Then I painted a second coat of the Iron Patina Paint.
While the second coat was still wet, I sprayed it with the Green Patina Spray.

The spray reacts with the iron to create rust. The process begins to happen quickly, but can take up to 6 hours to complete.
 Look at that beautiful rust!
I added a sweet little wooden deer to the ornament using E6000. Keeping with the rustic theme, I added jute to hang the ornament.
You could stop there, but I wanted the deer to blend more with the color of the rust. So, I added Bronze Gilding Wax.
You can use a brush, but I prefer to apply it with my finger.

Here's a look at the progression...
Warning: If you use this product, you will want to rust everything!!!

Mini Bundt Pan Christmas Ornaments

I have a stash of mini baking pans and I've been having fun using them to make Christmas ornaments.
For the project I'm sharing today, I used mini bundt pans and added Snow Tex to create snow...

While the Snow Tex was still wet, I inserted a little deer...

Then I added a small bottle brush tree behind the deer...
The Snow Tex will dry overnight and hold the deer and tree in place.

To hang the ornament, I used bakers twine...

For one ornament, I used a tree only...

It doesn't get any easier than that!
Well, buying pre-made ornaments is easier, but way less fun!

Tart Tin Photo Ornament

I went to a yard sale a few months ago that was being held by a couple who own a German restaurant here in my town. I bought a stack of mini tart tins, some of which still had stickers on the back that said, "Made in Germany."  A few different projects ran through my head of what to do with them. And then, all of a sudden, Christmas was approaching so I decided they'd make perfect photo ornaments.

I started by using my metal punch to add 2 holes to the tart tin. This type of punch is made for punching holes in metal and is used on things like bottle caps.
I threaded twine through the holes and tied a knot. I tied the knot to the inside of the tin so it will be hidden when I add the embellishments.

I printed out one of my favorite photos of my parents...

To know where to cut, I rubbed the edge of a pencil along the rim of the inner raised section of the tin. Then I laid the photo down and rubbed the photo to transfer the pencil marks onto the back of the photo.

Then I cut along the pencil marks...

I added tacky glue to the flat inner section of the tart tin and added the photo...

I added more tacky glue to the tin and added a row of wireless chenille around the photo...

I added a little more tacky glue and a second row of the chenille...

I finished it off with a paper flower to cover the knot...

I think this will be a favorite for many years to come!
