Woodland Wonderland

Who doesn’t love a stemless wine glass? Whether you drink wine or not, you’ll want to stock up on a few for this rustic holiday craft. And, since you can get the glasses at the dollar store, it’s inexpensive to create several of these woodland wonderland snow globes.

Here's what you'll need...
Stemless Wine Glasses
Round Wood Slices
Snow-Tex
Bottle Brush Trees
Miniature Deer
Miniature Pine Cones
Plastic Knife
Wire Cutters

Use a plastic knife to spread Snow-Tex onto the round wood slice. Once the wood is covered, use the flat side of the knife to gently press onto the Snow-Tex to create a fresh snow texture.
Remove the wooden base from the bottle brush trees using wire cutters. Press a tree and deer into the snow.

Place a stemless wine glass over the tree and deer and press into the snow to create a snow globe. As the Snow-Tex dries it will act as a glue to hold the trees, deer, and glasses in place.

Finish by adding a little of the Snow-Tex to the top of the snow globe and add miniature pine cones to the snow.

DIY "Rust"ic Ornaments

It's beginning to look a lot like a "rust"ic Christmas!
Creating rust is easy with the Patina Collection from the Dixie Belle Paint Company.
I started with a plain wooden ornament. It had a red ribbon which I removed.
I gave the ornament a coat of Dixie Belle Paint. I used Barn Red, but the color doesn't matter because in the end it won't show. The patina needs something to grab onto, so that's why you can't skip this step.
To create rust, I used the Iron Patina Paint. It has metal in it which can settle, so I gave it a good shake then painted one coat of the iron paint onto the ornament.
I let the first coat of the Iron paint dry completely. Then I painted a second coat of the Iron Patina Paint.
While the second coat was still wet, I sprayed it with the Green Patina Spray.

The spray reacts with the iron to create rust. The process begins to happen quickly, but can take up to 6 hours to complete.
 Look at that beautiful rust!
I added a sweet little wooden deer to the ornament using E6000. Keeping with the rustic theme, I added jute to hang the ornament.
You could stop there, but I wanted the deer to blend more with the color of the rust. So, I added Bronze Gilding Wax.
You can use a brush, but I prefer to apply it with my finger.

Here's a look at the progression...
Warning: If you use this product, you will want to rust everything!!!

I Hope They Don't Haunt Me: Altered Art

The Country Living Fair was recently held at
Stone Mountain, Georgia.
If you've never been, it's a must see!
My daughter, Carrie, went with me this year.
Here she is with Cari Cucksey,
of the tv show, Cash & Cari...
How do you like Carrie's scarf?
I made it!
I learned how watching Audra Kurtz's video.
Audra blogs over at The Kurtz Corner.
In her video, she shows how to arm knit an infinity scarf.
Yes, you heard right...
arm knit.
Instead of using knitting needles,
 you use your arms!
It's really fun and you can make a scarf in 30 minutes or less.
Carrie was stopped over and over at the Country Living Fair
by people complementing the scarf or asking where she got it.
She graciously told people that her mom made it.
She's made a few too, but none of them were the
preferred color of the day.
Check out Audra's video and start making Christmas presents!

Hometalk & Country Living Magazine
hosted a meet & greet for bloggers, & for me the highlight was meeting blog friend, Linda of Coastal Charm.
She was just as sweet as I thought she would be!

I'm sure you're wondering what any of this
has to do with the title of this post!
Well, one of the things that I loved at the fair
 were some altered art pictures.
So, when I came across some old photos
that a vendor was selling for $2 each,
I had to get some to alter.
Check out this beauty...
Hand written on the back of this photo was,
Gwendolynn, 1885.
I hope Gwendolynn has a sense of humor!
Gwendolynn, deer, don't be mad!

Then there were these handsome gents...

Don't they look dapper?

This is the one I'm most worried about haunting me...

She looks a little annoyed.

And finally,
there's this sweet baby...

I couldn't help but giggle after each one I finished!

And, they were really easy to make.
I used a reindeer punch to cut paper for the antlers and glued them on with tacky glue.
The red nose is a 3 dimensional dot
I found in the scrapbook section.
It already had sticky stuff on the back,
so you just peel & stick.

They still make me laugh.
They would make great Christmas cards.
Wouldn't you love to get one of these in the mail?
