DIY Garter & Bow Tie Votives

The March issue of Fayette Woman Magazine was all about weddings. In my article, I shared how to make these easy DIY garter and bow tie votives. They would be great if you are hosting a bridal shower, or at the rehearsal dinner, or reception.

For the garter, measure and cut a piece of lace ribbon to fit around the votive. The ribbon I used also had a row of beads. Attach with E6000.
Glue a ribbon flower to the center of the lace ribbon.
The ribbon and the flower are both from the bridal section at Michael's.

For the bow tie votive, measure and cut a piece of black ribbon to fit around a votive. Attach with E6000.
Cut a piece of black felt 1.5 inches by 1.25 inches. Fold in half, then cut a triangle from the outside corners toward the center of the felt.
Glue the felt onto the black ribbon using E6000.
Add a rhinestone to the center of the bow tie in a coordination color to the garter.

 Next, just add candles!

Sugar Eggs

When I was a little girl, I loved getting a
Panoramic Sugar Egg every year at Easter.
So, learning how to make them has been so much fun!

They are easier to make than you'd think.
The egg is made by placing a mixture
of sugar and egg whites in a mold.
You then allow it to dry & scrape out the center.
Add icing to the base to represent grass,
 then add silk flowers
and miniature Easter decorations...
 Attach the top with icing.
Cover the seam with flowers made of icing,
then decorate the top and around the "window."

The egg I made this year is much better than
the first one I made last year.
So, next years' egg should be awesome!

Go HERE to see how much fun we had
when the girls came over to make
 Panoramic Sugar Eggs last year.

Do these eggs bring back
fond memories of your childhood?

Pinterest Party Project

I write a DIY & crafting article every month
for the local magazine, Fayette Woman.
Back in February, Fayette Woman hosted a
Pinterest Party at Earth Mama's General Store
and I had the pleasure of teaching the class.
The project is featured in this months magazine.
I combined several things I had seen on Pinterest
to create this sweet candy jar...

Here's what you'll need to make one...
Large Mason Jar
Burlap Ribbon
Wooden Flower Cutout
Wooden Disc
Button
Wooden Knob
Scrapbook Paper
Glass Candleholder
Acrylic Paint
Paintbrush
E6000 Glue
Tacky Glue
Pencil Scissors

Put a dot of E6000 in the center of the front of the mason jar. Place the center of the burlap ribbon on the dot of glue.

Wrap the ribbon around the jar and
glue down the ends with E6000.
Set aside.

Trace around the wooden flower onto
 scrapbook paper and cut out.
Adhere the paper to the flower using tacky glue...

Using a coordinating paper,
repeat the process on the wooden disc.
Glue the disc to the flower using E6000.
Glue a button to the center of the disc.

With the jar lying on its back,
glue the flower to the jar with E6000.
Leave the jar lying on its back or the flower will slide.
Set aside and allow to dry.

Paint the knob with acrylic paint and set aside to dry.

Using the rim of the lid of the jar as a template,
trace and cut out a piece of scrapbook paper to cover the lid. The knob will go in the center of the lid, so if there is a section of the paper you want to feature, make sure it is not in the center of the template.

Glue the paper onto the lid using tacky glue.

Glue the lid into the lid rim using E6000
and allow to dry.

Once dry, glue the knob to the lid.

You could stop there and have a perfectly lovely candy jar.
But for a little something extra, glue a dollar store candlestick to the jar using E6000.

Fill the jar with candy and you have a
sweet creation worthy of being pinned.

We had so much fun at the Pinterest Party that we
are doing it again in May.
The articles are written 2 months in advance,
so you'll have to wait until July to see that project!

You can see pictures from our party HERE.
Head over to Facebook and check out the Fayette Woman page.
