Driftwood Santa

Recently, my daughter, Carrie was the maid of honor at her best friend, Callie's wedding. The wedding was at the beach and I offered to help with the centerpieces. Callie wanted driftwood and burlap and to keep it simple. Here's what I came up with...
I had lots of driftwood leftover and brought it home knowing I could do something with it.

When I looked at this piece, I saw Santa...
So, I started painting...

I think he turned out pretty cute!
He'll soon be flying off to be with Callie and her groom.

Now, what to do with the other pieces of driftwood!

Solar Light Snow Globes

When you think of snow globes, doesn’t it make you feel nostalgic? There once was a time when snow globes were a classic Christmas item, and chances are, you had one as a child. Take the classic snow globe outside to add a warm winter glow to your walkway with this do it yourself project.

                                               Supplies:
Mason Jars
Miniature Snowmen
Plastic Snowflakes
Tacky Glue
Glitter Snow
26 Gauge Wire
Solar Mason Jar Lids (found in the craft store)

I found these cute snowmen at Hobby Lobby...

I used tacky glue to add plastic snowflakes to the inside of the mason jars. The glue will be white but will dry clear. The snowflakes were on a strand and I cut them to have individual ones.

I added tacky glue to the bottom of the snowmen and placed them in the jars. I used tongs to help put the snowmen in place and then allowed the glue to dry.

I poured "snow" into the jars.

For each jar, I cut one piece of wire 12 inches long, then twisted the wire to form a loop at each end.

I cut a second wire that will wrap around the jar 4 times. I then threaded the loops on the first wire onto the second wire and wrapped the long piece of wire around the jar and twisted to secure.

Finally, I added the solar lids that I found at Michael's to the jars.

I hung the snow globes outside on hooks along my sidewalk and can enjoy the warm magical glow of a winter wonderland.

Walking In A Winter Wonderland

I've seen so many posts from other bloggers, over the last couple of weeks, of beautiful snow scenes. We rarely get snow in my part of Georgia. We had temperatures in the 70's on Thanksgiving and spent the day in t-shirts sitting by the pool! So, this project is probably the closest I'll get to seeing snow at Christmas.

It started with one of the mini baking pans I bought over a year ago at a yard sale...

You may remember the Christmas ornaments I made with them last year. You can find that post HERE.

I started by filling the pan with Swamp Mud from The Dixie Belle Paint Company.
Swamp Mud is most commonly used to fill holes and repair furniture. It is also used with stencils to create 3 dimensional designs.
While the mud was still wet, I inserted a cute little vintage looking deer and bottle brush trees.
The mud acted as glue to hold the deer and trees in place.

I'll definitely see more "mud" at Christmas than snow. But it's ok... I prefer to see snow in pictures rather than in my yard! For those of you who love the snow...enjoy, and keep those pictures coming!

My First Video Tutorial

I have created my first video tutorial!
Head over to YouTube and check out how I turned a plain olive jar into a festive votive using SHINE from

Dixie Belle Shine gives the effect of gold or silver leaf, but it is much easier to use and a lot less messy!
It's perfect for both crafts and furniture projects.
Check out the video HERE, and remember it's my first one, so please go easy on me...I'm learning.

DIY Sign: The Kids Table

Who remembers sitting at the kid's table?
Even as an adult, I think a lot of us would prefer sitting at the kid's table!
This DIY sign will add a fun, festive touch to your Christmas dinner.

I started by painting a block of wood that a friend gave me with the color Barn Red from The Dixie Belle Paint Company. I used a white paint pen to write, The Kid's Table. I also went over the letters with white paint just to get a good coverage. Then I added a few white polka dots.

I put Snow Tex along the top of the sign and while it was wet, I inserted trees and a sled that I got at Michael's.

Yep! The kid's table is the place to be!!!
