Painting Upholstery

Do you have a chair in great shape, but you hate the upholstery? Or, have you passed by perfectly good chairs at a yard sale or thrift store because you didn't like the upholstery?
It's an easy fix! Paint it!!!
I bought this chair at a local thrift store for $7.50. The fabric was dated, but in great shape.
I used a spray bottle filled with water to mist the fabric. This will help it to accept the paint.
I chose the color, Gravel Road, from the Dixie Belle Paint Company. It's a beautiful dark gray!

It took 3 coats to cover the pattern. I used a 400 grit sandpaper and sanded between each coat. Sanding is the key to getting a soft, smooth finish. I finished the chair off with Dixie Belle's Best Dang Clear Wax.
I also painted the wood with Gravel Road and I love the monochromatic look.

As with so many things, I have created a dilemma! Keep or sell? I think I may have to keep it!

A Mid Century Marriage

My friend, Valrey, a.k.a. the Picker Chic, is my go to person when I'm on the hunt for furniture. If you need something, chances are she has it! I wasn't looking for anything specific, but stopped by just to see what she had. I was so excited to get 2 of these mid century chairs...
The original vinyl seats were in great condition. And I loved the color!
There were are few scratches on the wood and the caning on the back was faded.

I revived the wood and the caning with Dixie Belle Paint Company gel stain in the color, Espresso.
I love this stuff! It's the consistency of pudding. I just dip a rag directly into the can and wipe it on. There are no drips like with traditional stain.

It only took about 10 minutes to revive these beauties!

Valrey also had a little mid century modern table that I thought would go perfectly with the chairs.
The top was scratched and the drawers and sides of the table were missing some veneer...
I used Swamp Mud to fill in the missing veneer, let it dry overnight, then sanded it smooth.
I painted the drawers with the color Peacock.
Then added black wax to make them match the vinyl seats of the chairs.
I used more of the Espresso Gel Stain to revive the wood and make it match the chairs.

It's a perfect marriage...
And, it's fitting that these pieces are now part of the decor at Mill Creek, a wedding venue in nearby Griffin, Georgia.

Child's Chaise Lounge Makeover

When I saw this adorable child's chaise lounge chair at a junk store in Atlanta, I couldn't resist!
The cushion was in good shape, except for being terribly faded.
So, I got out my Dixie Belle paint and covered the cushion with the color, Drop Cloth...

Once the cushion was dry, I stenciled on a design using the colors Florida Orange and Peacock...

I finished it off with spray wax, also from Dixie Belle. Yes, you heard right...spray wax! Just spray and wipe. I love it because it doesn't leave a tacky feel. And, it can be used for indoor and outdoor projects.

Once again, this was one of those pieces I couldn't let go of. I don't have small children, but hopefully grandchildren will come along someday (no time soon, kids)! Or, maybe my dog will enjoy it!

The Day The Gypsies Came To Town

May 30th was a fantastic day at
Junk Mama's General Store

That's the day the gypsies came to town.
 The Gypsy Junkers, that is.

The Gypsy Junkers are a Georgia based group of antique and vintage dealers. Some of the Gypsy Junkers travel around to different venues once a month to sell their treasures and on May 30th they set up on the porch and the lawn of
Junk Mama's General Store.

Louis, of Dust On The Bottle Collectibles, was the organizer of this event. Louis came with some great stuff!
These doors are awesome...
