Pew Redo

I recently had the opportunity to buy church pews from a wedding venue. I bought two thinking I might use them both at the table on my screen porch. Pews can be a little low for a table so I decided I just wanted one for inside my house. The problem is that they were both 12 feet long! That's awesome, but I didn't have a spot for a 12 foot pew! So, my son, who gets suckered into helping me with lots of projects, cut one of the pews in half...

Then he reattached the end...

There were a couple of damaged places that I filled in with Swamp Mud. I let it dry, then sanded it smooth.

I painted the pew with the color Drop Cloth from the Dixie Belle Paint Company.

My daughter made a cushion for the pew. Notice how I manage to get my kids to do things for me? I must have done something right.

The pew was a little too clean for my taste, so I added a little Grunge Glaze. Now it's perfect!

Now let's talk about that ironing board. It was my mother's first ironing board when she and my father married in 1934. It has been perfect as a sofa table!

I have a large open floor plan, so I placed the pew on the other side of the ironing board/sofa table so it faces my table and kitchen. It's perfect for when people gather at the table and we need more seating.

Now I'm in the process of covering my chairs with the reverse side of the fabric.

And, don't worry, the part that was cut away from the pew won't go to waste. I already have a plan for it!

Rockin' Coasters

For those who love a natural or rustic look, this DIY project is for you! These coasters are so quick and easy to make, that other than the drying time, you’ll be finished in just a few minutes.

Here's what you'll need...

Rockite Expansion Cement

Mason Jar Lids

Rocks

E6000 Glue

Container for mixing cement

Plastic spoon for mixing

Use E6000 to glue the lid to the mason jar ring. This may not be necessary, but better safe than sorry.

Mix the cement according to package directions & pour into the mason jar lids. Don't fill them to the top. The rocks will make the cement higher once they're added.

Press rocks or pebbles into the cement. Make sure the rocks are similar in size so your glasses don't wobble.

Perfect for inside or outside on a patio!

You may want to make plenty to give as gifts!

"Hey Y'all" Wreath

Last summer, after the terrible flooding in Louisiana, Lolly Jane sold "Hey Y'all" wooden cutouts to raise money for the victims. It was a great cause, and there is an update on their Facebook page that says that they raised $3,000 from the sale of the wreaths. Of course, I wanted to do something to help, and getting something cute is a win win! And, who doesn't want to greet their guests with a friendly, "Hey y'all!"?

I was so excited when my wreath showed up! But with endless possibilities for dressing it up, it was awhile before I got around to it.

I finally settled on the color, Colonel Mustard, from the Dixie Belle Paint Company.

I painted the wreath, then used my favorite thing to decoupage with... napkins!

I added twine to hang it...

I don't think there's any better way to welcome friends!

Furniture Makeover Roundup With Dixie Belle Paint

 By Far, my favorite paint for furniture comes from the Dixie Belle Paint Company! They have great colors and it's an all around great product. And, it's made in the USA! They have lots of products other than their chalk mineral paint, such as glazes, waxes, top coats, metallics, patina, and more. Visit their website to see everything they offer.

Here's a roundup of a few of the pieces I've painted over the last few months. Starting with this chair painted with Barn Red...

Barn red is one of my favorite Dixie Belle colors and I knew it would be perfect for this small hutch...

 A lot of the Dixie Belle colors have Southern type names. For instance, Kudzu. If you live in the South, then you know it is terrible to have in your yard. But, it's beautiful on furniture!

This cute little Bent Bros. chair had been spray painted a couple of times and was in pretty rough shape. But the Kudzu brought it back to life...

I left the leather top as is on this little table and painted the wood with Kudzu. I added Van Dyke glaze to the paint. The design in the leather took on a hint of green after the table was painted...

This chair needed some love! And, it got it with the paint color Drop Cloth, and Grunge glaze. The seat got a face lift with a grain sack fabric...

The detail in this pretty white chair didn't show up at all when I purchased it at a yard sale. Adding Dixie Belle's black glaze to the chair made all the detail stand out...

 A great combination...

 This yard sale find was very dated. But the paint color, Buttercream, & Van Dyke glaze gave it new life...

This freebie from a friend was a mess. It started out yellow. Then someone started painting it with black spray paint but didn't get very far. It was screaming for Collard Greens!

 And, who doesn't love blueberries? This worn out hutch is so sweet painted with Fluff & Blueberry...

 Another one of my favorite Dixie Belle colors is Bunker Hill Blue. It went perfectly with the copper top on this piece...

 Dixie Belle has 55 colors to choose from. And, I hear that new ones are in the works.
