How To Turn An Antique Tripod Into A Lamp

When I bought this old wooden tripod at an auction, I knew that it would make a great lamp.
So, I enlisted the help of my son and in about an hour, we had created a floor lamp.

My son, John, drilled a hole in the top of the tripod. My job was to hold the tripod steady so it wouldn't spin while he drilled.

Then he drilled a hole in the side to meet the first hole.

Rather than buy the cord for making lamps, we saved money by buying a $3 extension cord and cutting off the end...

John inserted the cord into the hole that he drilled on the side and up through the top...

He then threaded the cord through the base of the socket...

The wires were then wrapped around the screws on the interior section of the socket and the screws were tightened...

This was then inserted into the base of the socket...

Then the top of the socket was screwed on...

We decide the socket looked too new and we didn't want it to be black, so I added copper leaf over the black...

I added a black glaze over the copper leaf to antique it...

We decided to go with an Edison bulb and not add a lamp shade so that the lamp would maintain an industrial feel...

Building a lamp was a lot easier that I thought!

My son will be moving out soon, so this is another creation I won't get to keep!
