Desk Makeover

I bought this handmade desk at an auction for $30.

I paid too much for it considering the shape that it was in.
It's very sturdy and well made, but whoever had it
seemed to enjoy writing on the desk rather than paper!

I decided this would be a good project
for my first time using milk paint.
in Sea Green.
I only did one coat and love how it turned out.
Since it was bare wood,
it has a pickled finish look.

The paint even covered the marker on the inside...

But, since I've been obsessed with maps lately,
I used ModPodge and added maps to the inside
of the desk...

I love this map because it is from the
year I was born, 1961!
Yikes! When did I get to be so old?

I'm very happy with the result and
milk paint is now my paint of choice!!!

I have a garage full of furniture waited to be transformed!
I think I'll use the milk paint to get the
chippy look on my next project!

  8. I love the look of the milk paint Virginia. I have yet to try it. I have a daughter that loves maps. She is coming home from Africa next week. I have created a 'map' pinterest board to show her. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  9. How creative are you!? That map is awesome. What a great makeover on this desk. I enjoy flipping furniture, but I always hate painting the inside b/c it feels like 'who's gonna see this anyway?' What a great way to update the inside of the desk without having to paint it all! I would love it if you linked up your desk project to the Link It or Lump It Link Party! http://twoityourself.blogspot.com/2013/10/features-and-link-it-or-lump-it-link.html
