What do you do when your kids don't clean up after themselves?
CRAFT,
of course.
After my daughter made the flags that I recently posted...
she left a pile of fabric scraps on the kitchen counter.
When I gathered them up to throw away,
they reminded me of a nest.
Then I thought of this adorable ornament
that a friend gave me for Christmas...
I had already decided when I got it that I would try to make some of my own. It appeared as though it was made using a lid to a box...
I had a box that some little eggs that I bought years ago came in and I knew it would be the perfect thing to hold my patriotic nest.
The one given to me was covered in fabric, but I decided mine would be fine without it.
Using another scrap of fabric, I traced around the box lid with a Sharpie on the back side of the fabric.
I cut inside the line so that my circle of fabric would
fit inside the lid. Then, I glued the circle into the lid.
So that I would be able to hang the ornament when finished,
I cut a piece of jute and glued it to the back of the lid. I put a quart size can of paint on it to hold it in place until the glue dried..
I bunched up the scraps of fabric and glued them
into the lid to form a nest.
Then I glued in this cute little bird...
This would make a great ornament on a tree
with an Americana theme.
But, it is cute enough to hang around the house all year long!

So darned cute, what versatility we'd/you'd have making any nests for whatever holiday or season. Love, lovin' it. So clever and adorable. I've got to make some. Now I just have to find box lids. Like idea of being able to use up fabric scraps for the nest inside. Will have to get some little birds to go in them.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a wonderful 4th. We're off to a park for festivities soon. Free food, music, fun to be had by all. Glad you shared this project. I'm totally inspired.
