Chalk Paint Is For The Birds

Did I get your attention with the title?
No, I am not going to tell you that chalk paint is bad!
In fact, there is not much I don't like about it (except maybe the price). I have used chalk paint on so many things other than furniture. Here is another example...

I bought these less than lovely 1970's bird plaques at a yard sale for 50 cents each...

They are made from a heavy plastic. And, yes, you can paint plastic with chalk paint.
I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White.
It took 2 coats...
Using a wet paper towel, I rubbed the high spots to antique the plaques.

Here are some examples before and after antiqueing...

The finished product...

See...chalk paint really is for the birds!

Time REALLY Does Fly

Over the weekend, my daughter (the youngest of my 2) graduated from high school.
It is true, time really does fly. It flies way faster than I'd like!!!
There is a song by Trace Adkins that keeps playing over and over in my head...

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast

These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

It seems like just yesterday that my children were this little...
Such proud little artists! Mommy paints and draws on everything... why shouldn't we?

I just blinked and they turned into this...

I am proud to say that they are both wonderful people!
They are best friends (even though they still have a little fight every now and then).
My son will be a senior in college in the Fall, and my daughter is following him to the same college.
I will probably start posting more frequently when they leave trying to keep my mind off of it!!! However, I am excited for them and thrilled that they are doing what they should and both have a clear goal of what they want for their future!

So, for those of you who have small children, enjoy every minute. They will be leaving for college before you know it! Don't stress about a messy house, or mismatched clothes, or getting to bed 5 minutes late because you have to read one more story. The time you spend with them is so important, and giving them the freedom to be creative and feel special will make them better people.
Did I mention that my son is going to be an architect and my daughter is going to be a textile designer?

Here are a few more pictures of my sweet girl...

Peace & Flowers

Isn't this groovy?
I made it using a wooden blank peace sign that I got at Michael's. I traced around the wood onto a piece of scrapbook paper and then cut the shape out of the paper. I glued the paper onto the wooden peace sign using ModPodge.
I made origami flowers using coordinating scrapbook paper. You can get step by step instructions for making the flowers HERE. They are really very easy to make! I glued a rhinestone to the center of each flower using E6000.
I glued the flowers onto the peace sign and there you have it...
a super cute and super easy piece of art!

Repurposed Light Fixture

One of the stores where I rent space had this light fixture with a sign on it that said "FREE"...
I had never even noticed it because it was sitting under a table. I guess someone had tried to sell it, but no one ever wanted it and they decided just to give it away to get it out of the store. It does have a few holes in the glass...

Someone told me I should take it home. At first I couldn't think of anything I'd want to do with it. Until, I turned it upside down to check out the light part of it.
So, here's what I did...
I took out the globe and bulb...

I took off the finial  and removed the chain and wire.

I have this birdbath...
I love it, the birds love it, but it kind of gets lost with the dark color and tall plants.
I removed the copper bowl and the glass light fixture fit perfectly into the base of the birdbath.

Now, remember, the glass has holes in it and won't hold water.
So, I put the copper bowl into the light fixture. It was a perfect fit!

The light fixture added some height to the birdbath and lightened it up.

The birds still love it!
