I have been doing a lot of projects lately with 2 x 8 pieces on lumber.
I like to work with the wood because you can either hang your final piece or just set it on a shelf or table.
I buy the 12' piece of wood and have it cut to the desired length that I want. My husband has done this for me, but sometimes his pieces end up a little crooked. Ugh! So, I have been having them cut the pieces for me at Lowe's. They have the proper equipment to ensure that the cuts are straight. AND, they don't charge for this...they used to charge 50cents a cut (still a good deal).
For most of my recent projects, I have had the wood cut to 10 inches...
so my wood is 2" deep X 8" wide x 10" high.
I used one of these blocks for my post, The With Is In. I am teaching a class on this project at Earth Mamas on Wednesday. It should be lots of fun!
There is always a smaller piece of wood left over and I make sure I keep them for other projects.
Here is an example of what I have used a leftover piece for...
I took the block and painted one side of it white...I should have painted it orange because once it was finished I decided that the letters would look better orange.
I cut out the word EEK on contact paper using my Cricut and added it to the bottom right hand corner of my block . Next I painted over the entire block with black.
Then I peeled off the letters...
I painted over the letters with orange and then painted a spider web.
I bought this cute glittery spider with orange eyes at Michael's. It had a clip on the back which I removed, and then I adhered the spider to the block with E6000.
This is a cute, easy, and inexpensive project and it is a great piece to add to Halloween decor!

Very cute and clever. Good idea about having the wood cut at the store too.
ReplyDeleteNice! And the spider is just the right touch!
ReplyDeleteThese are great. It is so much fun to see what you can do with such simple supplies.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I am loving the "backwards" vinyl lettering that people are doing recently. Pealing it off instead of leaving it on, like a stencil! :) Thanks for linking up to Sassy Sites! Have a wonderful Friday! XOXO!! marni
ReplyDeleteThose are so cool. "All You Need Is Love" is my favorite.
