You're So Vain

I love going to auctions.

You can get such great deals!

This little vanity was a $20 auction purchase.

 It had a funky paint job...

It was definitely not fit for a Diva!

While it sat waiting for me to decide what to do to it,

my daughter redid her bathroom. She took down this cute shower curtain...

 It had shoes, perfume bottles, and other girly things on it...

It even had real pom poms and ribbon bows.

I decided that it would make a perfect skirt for the vanity.

So, after I gave the vanity a fresh coat of paint, I cut up the shower curtain.

The shower curtain wouldn't reach all the way around the table so I had to make 2 pieces. I hemmed each piece using iron on hem tape.

Then I used a staple gun to attach it to the table stopping just short of the drawer.

 

I used sticky back velcro on the section in front of the drawer so it can be easily accessible.

I glued a black ribbon onto the shower curtain to cover the staples.

Now this vanity is fit for a little Diva!

Last One In...

It looks like we are going to skip Spring here in Georgia and go right into summer! Last week I thought our chilly nights and rainy days would never allow the pool to warm up. But, today was hot and there were boys swimming in my pool.

Back in the winter, in anticipation of summer, I painted this sign for a friend's birthday to hang by her pool...

I started by painting a board a light blue...

 While the paint was still wet, I added a darker blue. I wanted the blue to resemble water.

When the paint was dry, I added vinyl letters to the board that I cut out using my Cricut...

I also cut out some teardrop shapes to look like dripping water.

I painted over the entire board with a cream color...

and then peeled away the vinyl...

I gave the board a good sanding...

 I gave the letters and teardrop shapes a white highlight...

I gave the sign a few coats of polyurethane and my husband drilled holes into the corners of the sign so I could add twine as a hanger.

I hope you are ready for summer.

Need A Tissue...flower pot?

A great way to create custom flower pots is with tissue paper.
These were made using images found on the
 Graphics Fairy website.

 Once I found the images I wanted to use, I printed them out on tissue paper (the kind you would put in a gift bag).
Cut the tissue paper larger than a piece of printer paper, wrap it around the printer paper, and tape it to the back. It's kind of like wrapping a present. Then you are able to run it through your printer.
After I painted my pots white, I tore the image out and used ModPodge to adhere the image to the pot. Then I tore pieces of plain tissue paper and covered the entire pot to give it texture.

  The pots looked fine at this point but I wanted to antique them. 
I used brown acrylic paint and a damp rag and rubbed it onto the pots. This is one case where you want your wrinkles to show and the brown paint helps that happen.
