The Old Crow...Chair

Don't throw away those old chairs that have a hole in the seat! Turn them into a display piece.

I bought this chair along with 2 others for only $10 for ALL 3. The other 2 are in good shape, only needing a fresh coat of paint. This one, however, had a pretty bad hole in the seat...
Having chairs re-caned can be expensive, and with this old chair, I didn't want to spend that kind of money.
I decided the best thing to do was to turn it into a piece of art.

I bought a cute garden stake on sale at Michael's...
I love the crows!

I cut off the bottom of the stake and screwed the decorative part onto my chair...

I wrapped some grapevine & burlap ribbon around the chair...

To the seat, I glued down a moss & bark covered birdhouse that I also bought on sale at Michael's...

I tucked some Dollar Store Spanish moss into the hole in the seat and formed it into the shape of a nest...
I added a few eggs to the nest...

What a welcoming piece of art to greet guests...

  3. What a great idea! As a chair hoarder...I hate to see a good chair go in the trash..lol I learned how to cane when I was a kid and did a 4-H demo on it, another almost-lost art. So long ago and I wish I could do it now but these days my hands lack the strength.

  5. Folk art chairs are my favorite art pieces. I looked around the other day and I did not have a single chair to work on. I enjoyed watching the evolution of yours. Great piece of art!

  9. This is such a good idea. I use my old chairs to put into the garden with a hole in the seat of the chair and allow the flowers to grown up through. I love this chair.

We may have met by chance...but we become friends by choice.
