IKEA Lantern Makeover

Add a beautiful touch of Fall to your decor with this easy
 DIY  lantern makeover.
The lantern I used came from IKEA, but any lantern will do.

Start by cutting a dinner napkin into 4 pieces...

Separate the napkin so that you only have the top layer with the pattern...

Cut the napkin slightly larger than the glass in the lantern. Coat the glass on the inside of the lantern with ModPodge...

Lay the napkin pattern side down on the ModPodge covered glass. Gently press the napkin down. Don't rub the napkin or it may tear. Give the napkin a coat of ModPodge...

I used a gold metallic enamel paint to tone down the black and make it coordinate with my Fall theme...

I didn't want the lantern to be a solid gold, so I used a damp paper towel to wash on the metallic paint...

The lantern could be used just like this, but I decided to add a little something to it...

I first glued on faux leaves using E6000...

Then I added some faux acorns...

All it needs now is a battery operated candle and I have a lantern that will add warmth and beauty to my home through Thanksgiving.
