I Can't Let It Go

More often than not, I create something or paint a piece of furniture with the intention of giving it to someone or selling it, but then just can't let it go. One example is this suitcase table that I made a couple of years ago...
I actually took it into Earth Mama's General Store to sell it but I couldn't stand the thought of it going home with someone besides me. Plus, look how good it looks in my house!

Well, it's happened again.
I bought this chair from a friend at her yard sale...
It's a big, sturdy chair that needed a little love. Of course, I knew that I wanted to paint the wood, and the seat would have to be recovered because the leather (or pleather) had been ripped off.

I've had my eye on this fabric at JoAnn's for quite some time and knew that this was the perfect project for it...
So, I removed the seat and covered it with this beautiful fabric. Then I painted the chair with light cream from The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company. It did a little chipping on its own plus I helped it along with a sanding block.

Before I started this project, I had decided to paint my living room a gray blue color. In the picture with the suitcase table you can see that the walls were a creamy yellow.

And, that's when it happened! Once the walls were painted, the chair was too perfect to part with.

Thank goodness I didn't haul this one off just to have to turn around and bring it home. I was smart enough to know that I couldn't let it go!

Candy Corn Rocking A Tray!

Who else thinks candy corn rocks?!!!
It's especially delicious if you mix it with peanuts. The perfect ratio is one candy corn with 2 peanuts. It tastes just like a Payday candy bar! Try it if you haven't...you'll be surprised at how good it is.

Enough about eating! Let's get to the project...

I've had this tray in my garage forever. Well, probably not forever, but at least a year. I used it in a demonstration at a milk paint class I was teaching.

I've gone back and forth with what to do with it. It's large enough that I thought I might use it as a table top.
But, then I was inspired by the cute CANDY CORN ROCKS charm that I added to this cuff bracelet...

So, I painted the tray black and then used chalk to sketch a piece of candy corn...

I painted the piece of candy corn with white acrylic paint to work as a primer over the black...

Then I painted each section with the colors of candy corn. I added a little black at the edges so it wouldn't look so flat...

I painted the words, candy corn rocks, with white, then yellow, and then orange...

I painted black stripes over the letters...

Once the paint was dry, I used a damp rag to wipe away the chalk, then I sealed the tray with tung oil.

And, yes! Candy Corn Rocks!!!

Do you mix candy corn with anything?
If so, please share your concoction!

Super Easy DIY Fall Banner

Burlap comes with some beautiful printed patterns.
When I saw this leaf patterned burlap at JoAnn's,
I knew it would make a great banner for Fall.

I made a template using card stock.

I used a Sharpie to trace around the card stock on the back side of the burlap. Then I cut along the lines.

I overlapped the top corners of each section of burlap and stapled them together. I put 2 staples forming an X.

I stapled a burlap ribbon to each end.

Finally, I covered the staples by using E6000
to glue orange buttons over the staples.

It doesn't get any easier than that!

What The Kids Are Creating #2

Today I am sharing a
Spooky Skeleton Spool Table
that my son, John, made.
A friend of mine had given me the ends off of some cable spools.
On one of the spools, John added legs with
casters that we bought at IKEA.
Then he stained each section of the spool a different color.
In one of the sections, he pieced together paper
that had pictures of skeletons.

He pieced the paper together so that the front and side view of the skeleton are intertwined.
This table turned out spooky & spectacular!
Wouldn't it be a great place to put your Halloween candy?
