Nuts About Fall

Candy Corn... it's a Fall staple.

Do you love it or hate it? There's usually no in between.

If you hate it, then you probably haven't eaten it with peanuts! The mixture tastes like a PayDay candy bar & is delicious. The perfect ratio (to me) is 2 or 3 peanuts to 1 piece of candy corn.

You may not love candy corn, but I don't know anyone who doesn't love Fall. So, I mixed up some candy corn & peanuts and made some cute gifts to celebrate the season.

My friend, Debbie, gave me a case of lemonade bottles that were perfect for this project. I soaked them to get the labels off, then sterilized them in the dishwasher. 

 I used my Cricut Maker to cut vinyl that says, "nuts about Fall" and added it to the bottles.

 Then I filled the bottles with candy corn & peanuts.

 And, added a raffia bow.

I also played around with some other fonts & vinyl colors...

Copper Patina Pill Bottles

I hate throwing away medication bottles. Every time that I do, I think about how I should find a use for them.

I finally removed the labels from a few and decided I could use Dixie Belle's Patina Collection to make them pretty enough to use as bud vases.

I first gave the bottles a coat of Dixie Belle Paint, which works like a primer for the patina paint. The paint color didn't matter because it was going to be covered by the patina paint. 

Then I gave the bottles a coat of Copper Patina Paint and let it dry. 

Once dry, I gave the bottles a second coat of the copper paint. While the paint was still wet, I sprayed the bottles with the Green Patina Spray.

 The metal particles in the patina paint will begin to react with the patina spray immediately. 

I used E6000 glue to adhere jute around the rim of the bottles.

 They're the perfect size for small flowers.

 And, they look much better here than in the landfill!

That's A Wrap For Thanksgiving

It's time to wrap up your Fall decorating! 

There's still time to add to your Thanksgiving decor before your guests arrive. Especially with an easy project like this one. And, most likely, you have everything on hand to get started.

 Supplies:

 Jars or Other Glass Containers

Quotes or Art Printed on Your Home Computer

Tea

Pan Large Enough to Hold An 8.5 x 11 Piece Of Computer Paper

Tape

Twine

Glue

 Download or create graphics that will go on the jars. I created the graphics used here in PicMonkey. Print the graphics in landscape mode.

 Tear, don’t cut, the paper at least 1 ½ inches above the graphic, and at least ½ inch below the graphic. You’ll want to leave more space above the graphic than below.

 Steep some tea and pour it into a pan. Note: green tea will not be dark enough to properly stain the paper. Place the paper into the pan and allow the tea to stain the paper. It’s best to leave it overnight.

Remove the paper from the pan of tea and allow to dry.

 Add glue to the rim of the jar and wrap with twine. 

 Wrap the tea stained paper around the  jar and secure with tape on the back. You may also glue the paper to the jar, however, using tape allows you to easily change the wrap for each season.

 Use a piece of twine to tie a bow around the top section of the paper.

Fill the jar with Fall foliage, candles, candy, or display as is.

Wine Jug Makeover

There have been a couple of parties recently where I have made Sangria. I use the inexpensive jug wine to make it. I love the shape of the jugs and hate to get rid of them so I decided to try the image transfer technique that I recently posted. If you missed it, this is what I shared...

I wasn't sure how the technique would work on glass. I was afraid that when I sprayed the bottle with water and began to rub away the paper, that the paint might come off too. But, I am happy to report that that was not the case!

I started with this jug...

After removing the label, I painted the jug with 2 coats of Dixie Belle paint in the color Dropcloth.

I wanted an image that would fit in the flat oval part of the jug where the original label had been. I found a French image that I liked on The Graphics Fairy. I resized the image to fit on the jug and then printed it in reverse so that when the image is transfered the words won't be backwards. I then took what I printed to Staples to make copies on a laser printer. The colors will bleed if you use an ink jet printer.

 I covered the image in Dixie Belle Clear Coat and then laid it face down on the jug and allowed it to dry completely.

Once completely dry, I sprayed the paper with water and began to gently rub away the paper.

As it dries, if all the paper isn't removed, the image will look milky. I kept spraying with water until all the paper was removed.

I covered the entire jug with clear coat to seal it. Then I added a small rope around the top to finish it off.

I may have to make Sangria more often so I can makeover more jugs!

Now, about that Sangria! If you're interested, here's the recipe I use. It comes from my friend, Carol.

Carol's Sangria:
1 jug of Burgundy
1 Cup Peach Flavored Brandy
1 Cup Sugar
4 Lemons, Sliced
4 Oranges, Sliced
Ginger Ale

Mix all ingredients, except the ginger ale, and chill for 4 hours. When you're ready to serve, add ginger ale. Add 1/2 to 1 liter of the ginger ale depending on how strong you want it.
