Jewelry From a Furniture Makeover?!!!

I recently purchased this great chest of drawers for $25 at the Salvation Army...
I love the style of it, but it had seen better days, for sure!
It had great hardware...
This piece was in desperate need of a makeover. So, I painted it with Annie Sloan Old White.
To make it easier to paint the bottom, I put the chest up on my bar stools...
Back to that great hardware...
one of the drawer pulls was missing! Ugh!
I had these knobs that I had bought at Michael's a while back for $2 each...
The color was perfect and I actually liked them better with the chest once it was painted...

Now, back to that great hardware, once again...
I love these antique drawer pulls and it just so happens that my friend, Sue, showed me a necklace she had made using similar drawer pulls. Her necklace was gorgeous, but I figured I'd never make any like it because when would I ever have drawer pulls like that?!!! Little did I know that just a couple of weeks later I would end up with 5 of them!
So, I copied Sue...
I added jump rings where the screws would normally go and attached a chain to the jump rings.
Then using more jump rings, I attached charms to the piece that you would pull...

This makes such a beautiful and unique piece of art jewelry!
One down...4 to go!

Auburn Beverage Tub

Yesterday, I attended a cousins' wedding in Montgomery, Alabama. Both the bride and groom graduated from Auburn University. For their gift, I painted a galvanized tub that can be used as a beverage tub to keep drinks cold during parties.
These buckets have an oily coating on them. I use dish soap to remove the coating. Vinegar will do the trick, too.
Then I give it a light sanding so the paint will adhere better.
I layered the different elements of the painting starting with what you would see in the distance first. So, I painted my sky first. I used a light blue and streaked in some white for clouds.
The next thing in the distance is Samford Hall...
Then I added the trees and bushes around the building. Oops, I forgot to take a picture of this step.
Then I painted in the Auburn University sign. I started by first painting white as a primer for my sign...
While the sign was drying, I added some large branches...
I went back and painted in the sign...
I added toilet paper to the branches. It has been a tradition at Auburn to tp the oak trees at Toomer's Corner when something good happens concerning Auburn.
On the brick sign, I put the couples names.

And it wouldn't be complete without adding, "War Eagle" to the other side of the tub...

Here is one I did for another Auburn couple last year...

I did this one for a silent auction for Relay For Life...

When the tubs are not in use, they look great if you add potted plants to them. When you need it for a party, simple take out the pots and you're ready to party!

Longing For Summer!

Yes, we have had a very mild winter in Georgia. But, I am longing for hot days!
I am ready for my back yard to look like this again...
I am crazy in love with zinnias!

Another one of my favorite things are the sap buckets I use underneath my kitchen window instead of a flower box...

I never could find a flower box that fit the style I was going for. When I found the sap buckets, I knew they were perfect.
I can't wait to fill them up again!!!

The "PEAR"fect Chalkboard

Back in October, I wrote about all the great things I bought at the yard sales going on during The Cotton Pickin' Fair. You can read about that HERE.
One of the things I bought was this large frame...

It was marked $5, but everything had been marked down half price so I only paid $2.50 for it. It was brand new!!! It measures 30" x 40".
I painted the frame with Annie Sloan Old White...
At my local home improvement store, I had a board cut to fit the frame.
I painted the board with several coats of Chalkboard paint...
I followed the directions on the can and conditioned my chalkboard by rubbing the entire surface with chalk. Once I finished this process, I wiped off the chalk and added the board to the frame...
I distressed the frame...
And, then I painted pears with acrylic paint on the chalkboard...
"Pear"fect!

Valentine Gift Tin

After Christmas, I bought some tins that were on sale at Kroger for 40cents...
I knew I would re-purpose them somehow and here's what I came up with...

I bought some Valentine's fabric at Hobby Lobby. I bought 1/4 of a yard and it was on sale so I paid $1.05. I can make 4 boxes from that amount of fabric.

Using the lid to the tin as a template, I drew 5 circles on the fabric and cut them out using pinking sheers. Then I cut 5 more circles slightly smaller (I free handed this...it doesn't matter if they are perfect circles when you fold them). Then I cut more circles smaller than the second set. For this smallest set, I only needed 2 circles.

I folded the largest circles and medium circles in half, and then in half again. Here's the really easy part...I stapled them at the tip to hold them together!

Starting with the largest folded circles, I glued them around the top of the tin using E6000.
 Bye, bye Santa!

Then I added the medium size circles.

The smaller circles didn't need to be stapled. I just folded them and glued them into the center of the flower. I held them in place long enough for them to secure to the flower.
For around 75cents, I have a cute gift box that can hold anything from candy, to love notes, to jewelry. I think I'll give the empty box to my husband and tell him to put something sparkly in it!
