Less Is More

I found this beautiful china cabinet at a recent yard sale...

 It was in great shape & had some pretty detail. But, the detail didn't stand out. So, I brought out the caviar.

 I didn't want to hide all of the wood, so less was more in this case.

 The wood really stands out next to Dixie Belle Paint Company's Caviar.

 Just a little caviar hit the spot!

It All Started At The Paris Flea Market

When my husband and I visited Paris in 2015, one of my favorite things we did was visit the Paris Flea Market.

One of the shops had a wall that had shelves, floor to ceiling, filled with antique coffee grinders. 

And, so began my collection.

I bought one coffee grinder there at the Paris Flea Market and have collected more over the years. They have been scattered about in my kitchen and dining room. But, when I came across some beautiful corbels I knew that was going to give me an opportunity to bring them all together.

To make shelves that would match the finish of the corbels, I started by giving some boards a wash of Dixie Belle paint in the color, Caviar.

 Then I took a scrap block of wood, dipped it in the color Drop Cloth, & dragged it across the board to create a chippy, weathered finish

 I started with three shelves but hope to add a couple more.

 This is just part of my collection...

 And, this is the one that started it all...

Creamsicle With A Surprise Inside

When I found this little table at a yard sale, I loved the style but it was in terrible shape...

 It was so bad that I had to get out the electric sander. It had been spray painted so the finish was very uneven & had lots of drips.

I chose the color, Apricot, from the Dixie Belle Paint Company & once I started painting, I ran into another problem. The tannins in the wood began to bleed through the paint in some areas.
So, I added 2 coats of Dixie Belle's BOSS. This blocked the bleed through.

 Once the table was painted with Apricot, I added Flamingo...

The drawers needed some love too! So, I painted them with the color Stormy Seas...

I added a succulent pattern to the sides of the drawers using decoupage tissue paper from re*design with Prima.

 This cute table sold before I ever painted it. The buyer saw the "before" on Instagram & said they didn't care what color I painted it, they just wanted it to be happy.

 And, I have to give the new owner credit for the title. When she saw the finished product she said it reminded her of a creamsicle.

 Luckily, she likes creamsicles...

My New Favorite Color

 With 69 colors, it's hard to pick a favorite Dixie Belle Paint color. But, what I'm loving right now is Antebellum Blue.

I knew it would be a great color when paired with black wax to bring out the detail in this little harp table...

It's such a gorgeous shade of blue with just a hint of green...

Once the table was painted, I applied Dixie Belle's Clear Best Dang Wax. Doing this helps control the depth of the black wax.

I applied the Black Best Dang Wax with a stiff wax brush making sure it got it into all the detail areas...

 Then I wiped it back with a rag...

 The wax highlights all the beautiful detail...

 So, for today at least, Antebellum Blue is my favorite color.

Sew Pretty Table Makeover

There was a time when sewing tables were beautiful and made to fit in with your decor. When your sewing machine was tucked away, the cabinet looked and functioned as a table.

The sewing machine was missing from this one that I found in an antique store, but I knew it would be beautiful as an end table.

 I also knew that a little paint would bring out the detail. I chose the color Dusty Blue from the Dixie Belle Company.

 I added a little black glaze to highlight some of the detail.

This is the perfect example of the phrase, "they don't make 'em like they used to!"
