Upcycled Piano

As I have mentioned before, I am a vendor at Junk Mama's General Store. Along with the owner, Cindy, I sell paint products from The Dixie Belle Paint Company. We had outgrown our display piece and I had planned on having my son build us a new display. That is, until I priced the supplies! It was going to be around $500!
So, I started looking at pieces of furniture we could combine to make a cool display. While at a thrift store I spotted a beautiful old piano that I thought would be perfect with a little work. But, it was $1500!!! At a thrift store!!!
Then I remembered that another junkin' friend had one she was trying to get rid of, but she had given it away the day before I called her! Yes... she GAVE it away! Lucky for me, she knew someone else with one... a FREE one! As it turns out, pianos are so incredibly heavy that no one wants to move them. So, the only way to get rid of them is to give them away. Sad, but true.
So, my husband and my son, along with 2 other men loaded my free piano onto a trailer and we brought her home.

Since she was so heavy (yes, I think the piano is a she) we left her on the trailer while my husband and son worked on her. They removed the "guts" but don't worry...they'll become part of another project.

Then they added shelves to her...

She was delivered to Junk Mama's General Store where it took my husband, son, and 2 more men to get her moved inside. She fits right in inside the old house built in 1916 that is now Junk Mama's.
Once inside, I stained the shelves...

Since she is a display for Dixie Belle Paint, she had to be at least partially painted with Dixie Belle. So, Cindy and I painted her with the color Buttercream...
See the shelf underneath?
My son built that too!
She makes the perfect display for Dixie Belle.
And, since she's been at Junk Mama's, you wouldn't believe how many people have tried to GIVE me a piano!!! Let me know if you want one and I'll send them your way!

  15. I"ll bet that old piano is singing your praises in old piano heaven. The way the shelves were put on piano to get best use of her is brilliant and paint color you used is perfect. I always get so tickled when I see what bloggers can do when they have a good reason/purpose for something. Now I'll be waiting to see what you do with innards. Great post, loved it. Happy daze

  16. How wonderful is the piano now! If it could talk I am sure it would say he loves to still be related to art, a different kind of art which is paint.
