The Scretary Gets A Makeover

No, not a secretary "person",
a secretary "desk".

A friend of a friend called me about painting their desk.
It's not very big, but it has lots of nooks and crannies...
I worked on this piece everyday for a week!

At first, I thought the secretary should not get a makeover.
She was a natural beauty.

But, she turned out quite lovely with her makeover...

The paint color is Sherwin William's, Anjou Pear.
I antiqued it with a raw umber glaze and finished her off with a couple of coats of polyurethane.
I have to admit, even though at first I thought she shouldn't be painted, I do like her better after her makeover.

What about you? Do you prefer natural wood or painted?

And, by the way, I'm now on Twitter. You can follow here.

  1. I love what you did to that desk! Oh my goodness!! I like both natural wood and painted wood. I like mixing the two. I know that at some point painted furniture will be out of vogue and I will still have some finished wood pieces in my house so I won't have to start over!! :)

  9. I have been on the hunt for a secretary to makeover in a similar fashion! I have a small house and now that I am strictly using a laptop, it would be a great way to add storage while giving myself a little workspace.

Thanks for sharing at Tatertots and Jello
