The French Chest

The Dixie Belle Paint Company continues to grow their product line. And, when I purchased this sad French style chest of drawers, I knew that I wanted to use a couple of the new products to help transform it.

I loved the shape of the piece, but it was in horrible shape. Someone had attempted a bad job of trying to decoupage over it and then apparently changed their mind...

One of the new Dixie Belle products, Sea Spray, adds texture. I mixed the Sea Spray with the gorgeous color Peacock...

I didn't cover the entire piece with the mixture. I only wanted texture in certain areas, so I applied it randomly to the chest.

When I used Sea Spray on the shutter I shared recently, it took a long time to dry. I found that the Sea Spray dried really fast by using it outside in the hot Georgia sun!

Once it was dry, I painted over it with the color Kudzu...
I also blended in a little more of the Peacock and another color called Sea Glass.

Once the paint was dry, I sanded the textured areas to reveal the Peacock...

Then I went over the chest with another new Dixie Belle product, VooDoo Gel Stain.
VooDoo Gel Stain is a water based stain so it's easy to clean up and has no odor.
I just squirted a little stain directly onto the chest and smoothed it out with a rag.

I love how she turned out!
She's a French beauty mixed with a little bit of a Southern Belle... she is covered in kudzu after all!

For those of you who may not know, kudzu is an invasive vine that is trying to cover the entire South! It has a pretty purple bloom for a very short period in the summer that smells like grape soda.
Kudzu is the spawn of the devil!

However, when you marry kudzu with peacock, she's quite lovely!

  1. Love how you played with the Dixie Belle product line! I've recently tried their products for the first time and love them. I took note of how you applied Voodoo stain over the paint rather than glaze. Must try! Looking forward to trying the sea spray next - love the patina it gave your dresser!
