This table started out like this...
It was in rough shape! It had been outside under a carport for who knows how long.
I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it when I saw it!
So, I gave it a coat of paint, then cut yardsticks that I had been hoarding collecting to cover it.
My favorite yardstick is one from Travis Hardware...
Travis Hardware opened in 1952 on the square in Fayetteville, GA. It's long gone, but the building (now a restaurant) is still known as the Travis Hardware Building.
They sold a little bit of everything, as the yardstick states...
The yardstick is so old that the phone number only shows the last 4 digits...
I used one that was a little wider than the others and had a great saying...
And one was from a 1976 campaign for state representative...
And, I had to add the John Deere yardstick in honor of all my Georgia transplant friends from Michigan!
All the yardsticks are glued down using wood glue. They are lined up so that the yardstick on the bottom lines up with the same yardstick on the top.
I have a few inches left over from each yardstick.
I wonder what I should do with those?!!!
I'm sure I'll figure out something!

ReplyDeleteVery clever & so creative!! Always wondering what great idea you will come up with next. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! I have wanted to make some sort of "yardstick furniture" for a while now but whenever I come across yard sticks at flea markets etc., they seem a bit too expensive for my taste (and pocketbook! lol) Now you've got me thinking again....thanks for the inspiration and great job!

You made that old table look so cute with yard sticks. I've been looking for old yard sticks but prices are usually way too prohibitive for my budget. Have bought a few so guess I'd have to use those. I do have some rulers so I maybe could substitute those in mix on table. I have a table I bought for $5 which is similar to yours so that would be good and cute way to rehab it. Have had it for year or so but hadn't decided what to do with it. Think your post has inspired me, appreciate. Will have to wait til Spring as it's one muddy mess in our back yard. Over holiday weeks we had cold weather and snow but it's warmed up, melted snow and rained, hence one muddy front/back yard. Poor dog doesn't want to go out so he doesn't have to have his feet cleaned which he hates. Have a great week

Oh my that is so lovely and delightfully different.
ReplyDeleteAre the remaining end bits enough to make coasters to match? or a patchwork trivet or plant pot mat? or they could make handles for something? or a mobile or game pieces for a game or ...
The yardstick second from right on top look raised up. Is it or is it just the angle of the camera?
ReplyDeleteWith the leftover inches I believe coasters would be the perfect accompaniment to this great table! What a conversation piece !!
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely! I really like the fact that the top ones line up with the bottom for a nice flow! You always know just what to do with stuff, so I'm sure you'll use those little pieces in something fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove it!! The yardsticks look amazing on both surfaces of the table - great idea!
ReplyDeleteGreat way to take a beat up table to one that really measures up! Clever use of yardsticks.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I love it! It looks soooooo much better than before. Great rescue!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the look of your table and thank you for sharing it at my party.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Great job! The old yardsticks alone are a great conversation piece, but putting them all together on the table really elevates them --and the table -- to something special.
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell you what an inspiration this post was today! I have both an old card catalog that has no top, and an old side table that need to be refinished. AND I have been finding old yardsticks. I can't decide whether to use them on the card catalog or on the table, but it will be one or the other. Thanks so much. I pinned this!!
ReplyDeleteThis is super cool! I love all the different colors!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely adorable! How clever and crafty of you to redo this little, vintage end table into a work of 'immeasurable' appeal!;))

So cute!! Love all the colorful yard sticks!! :) Happy sweet weekend! xo Holly
ReplyDeleteLove it! It really gives the piece a new life.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love how you rescued this old table with such a creative use of vintage yardsticks. Great idea! I used yarsticks along the sides of the big table in my craft room but never thought of using them on top. I really like the salvaged look of the finished project. Thanks for a great pot; I love your blog and all of your ideas.
