Evolving Chair: Valentine Edition

If you're a regular visitor to my blog, then you have seen the transformation of the chair that sits in the front room of
The chair started out like this...
I painted the fabric black and added pumpkins for Fall...

The pumpkins evolved into ornaments for Christmas...

Next, it received a festive theme for the new year...

Of course, the natural transition was to give the chair a makeover for Valentine's Day. So, I painted over the new year theme with black and sketched out my design with chalk...
I used acrylic paint to fill in the design...
This might be my favorite! But, it won't be long until the chair will undergo another transformation!
What do you think is next?

Valentine Mantel 2015

I always hate taking down my Christmas decorations. Especially from my mantel. Christmas seems to come  around so quickly, and then it seems that as soon as you put out the decorations, it's time to take them down again.
The good part about taking down the Christmas decor, is that I get to decorate for Valentine's Day.

I don't go crazy decorating for holidays (other than Christmas) and seasons but I do like to decorate my mantel. It's the focal point of the room so it's fun to change it up.
I made the banner a couple of years ago. You can see how I made it HERE.
This year I tried string art for the first time when I created this heart. I hammered in the nails, but my daughter took over and did the fun part!

I also created this mixed media heart art...
I'll be sharing the tutorial for it soon.
How about you? Do you decorate for special occasions other than Christmas?

A Table That Really Measures Up

This table started out like this...
It was in rough shape! It had been outside under a carport for who knows  how long.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it when I saw it!
So, I gave it a coat of paint, then cut yardsticks that I had been hoarding collecting to cover it.
My favorite yardstick is one from Travis Hardware...
Travis Hardware opened in 1952 on the square in Fayetteville, GA. It's long gone, but the building (now a restaurant) is still known as the Travis Hardware Building.
They sold a little bit of everything, as the yardstick states...
The yardstick is so old that the phone number only shows the last 4 digits...

I used one that was a little wider than the others and had a great saying...

And one was from a 1976 campaign for state representative...

And, I had to add the John Deere yardstick in honor of all my Georgia transplant friends from Michigan!

All the yardsticks are glued down using wood glue. They are lined up so that the yardstick on the bottom lines up with the same yardstick on the top.

I have a few inches left over from each yardstick.
I wonder what I should do with those?!!!
I'm sure I'll figure out something!

Mid Century Modern Makeover

Lately, I seem to come across more and more mid century modern pieces of furniture.
I felt like I hit the jackpot when I came across this pair of mid century bar stools the Salvation Army for only $6.99 each!
One was in a little better shape than the other, but it doesn't matter when you're going to paint them!

A few days after I bought them, I saw the exact same bar stools on Facebook in a photo from 1961. You can see that vintage photo HERE. For being at least 54 years old, the stools were in great shape structurally. They just needed a face lift!

I used chalk paint from Dixie Belle Paint Company and painted the first stool white and added a gray stripe.

For the second stool, I did the reverse and painted it gray with a white stripe.

I'm so glad I chose not to paint them the same!

Now that they've had a little TLC, maybe these bar stools will last another 54 years. I can see it now...
in the year 2069, someone will come across these painted bar stools and feel like they would be perfect...
if they were stripped and stained!
