Halloween Treat Box

This Halloween,

give the people that are special to you

treats in this adorable fabric covered box.

Believe it or not,

this box is made using posterboard!

On the posterboard,

draw 2 circles the exact same size.

I started with 2 that were 4" across.

Then draw 2 more circles that are slightly larger than the first 2 circles (approximately 1/4 inch).

Then cut the circles out.

The 2 smallest circles will make up the bottom of the box.

Cut fabric for the bottom of the box so that it is approximately 1/2" larger than the posterboard circles.

Lay the fabric printed side down.

Add tacky glue to one of the posterboard circles and lay it down on the fabric.

Cut slits about 1/4 apart from the edge

 of the fabric to the posterboard.

Add a line of tacky glue around the edge of the circle and fold fabric up and onto the circle.

Repeat this process for the circle that is the same size.

To create the sides of the box,

draw a straight line on the posterboard

that measures about 1/2 longer than the 

circumference of the circles x the height that you want the box 

plus 1/2 inch then cut it out.

I wanted my box to be 3 1/2 inches tall, 

so I measured 4" and drew a line 1/2" along one side.

Cut slits along the 1/2 inch section and then

 fold along the 1/2" line.

Cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than the width of the posterboard just cut and more than twice the height.

Add tacky glue to the posterboard and lay it on the fabric.

Fold the sides of the fabric in and glue down.

This will ensure that you have no raw edges.

Add tacky glue to the uncovered posterboard and fold fabric over.

Cut slits in raw edge of fabric to match the slits 

cut in the posterboard.

Add tacky glue to the edge of one of the fabric covered circles on the side that is not covered completely.

Start gluing the side of the box where you cut the slits 

onto the base.

When the base is glued down,

glue the sides together where they overlap.

Secure with a clothespin or clip until dry.

Cover the other circle with tacky glue and insert into the box.

Press down to get a secure bond.

That completes the base of the box.

Using the circles that are slightly larger than the first 2,

repeat the steps above.

You will want the top of the box to be shorter than the bottom.

WHEW!!!

That seems like a lot,

but it really is simple.

Just a little time consuming.
