Paper Flowers

I love summer!

One of my favorite things about summer 

is my zinnia garden.

Zinnias never disappoint with their endless supply of blooms that fill my house all summer long and into the Fall.

 I have always hated seeing summer come to an end.

Don't get me wrong, I also love Fall...

but, there's just something about summer!

So, now that summer is coming to an end and my zinnias are fading, it's time to replace my beloved zinnias with something else.

These paper flowers will fill the void until next year...

Here's how you can make these everlasting flowers...

Cut scrapbook paper into 3 inch x 12 inch strips.

 I used 3 coordinating patterns.

Cut slits approximately ¼ inch wide along the strips of paper. This does not have to be exact! Leave about ¾ inch uncut along the bottom of the strip of paper.

Place scissors on the back side of the paper and

 gently curl the paper

the way you would curl ribbon.

Add a line of glue along the bottom of the patterned side of the paper strip. Roll the strip onto a skewer. Pull the skewer down into the center of the flower so it does not show. Secure with tape.

Starting at the base of the flower, begin wrapping the bottom of the flower with paper tape. Continue down the skewer until you have it covered with the tape. The skewers can be easily broken to the correct length to fit the jar or vase you will be using.

 

Fluff your flowers to get the desired shape 

and add a button to the center.

 Cut a piece of coordinating scrapbook paper to fit around

 a mason jar or vase and secure with jute.
