Nesting

Back before Christmas, my friend, Bebe, created winter scenes in a couple of old gumball machines. They were adorable! So when I saw this metal gumball machine at a thrift store, I bought it thinking I would save it for next Christmas.
But, I decided, why wait for Christmas?
I wasn't in love with the lime green, so I painted the green metal with Dixie Belle Mineral Chalk Paint in the color Vintage Duck Egg.
Dixie Belle paint will adhere to any surface with no prep work! They advertise it as being easy peasy, and they're right!

After 2 coats of paint, I opened up the gumball machine and placed a nest inside that I made using straw packing materials. Then I placed 3 faux eggs into the nest. After all, it is officially Spring and the birds are busy building their nests

I'm going to enjoy my gumball nesting machine through summer. And, just maybe, I'll change it up for Christmas when the time comes.

Tree Of Life

Create a meaningful work of art that represents the growth of your family with this metal tree of life.Use different color beads to represent the birthstone of family members.

Supplies:
6 inch brass ring
20 gauge brass wire
Beads
Jewelry Pliers
Ruler

Cut the wire so that you are left with 36 pieces that are approximately 10 inches long. If your jewelry pliers do not have wire cutters, scissors will cut the 20 gauge wire.

Place the wire pieces together. Measure up 1 ½ inches from the bottom and begin wrapping the bundle of wire with a shorter piece of wire until you have wrapped 1 inch of the bundle.

Wrap the 1 ½ inch pieces of wire around the ring to form the roots of the tree. Leave some of the wire unattached to represent deep roots.

For the branches, twist together 2 and 3 pieces of wire. Create bends in the wire so that the branches aren’t straight. Add beads to represent family members. Separate the wires as the branches get closer to the ring. Wrap the branches around the ring twice to secure.

Once all the branches are formed and attached, cut the excess wire at the back side of the ring. Use the pliers to flatten the wire.

Mother's Day will be here before we know it, and this project will make a beautiful and meaningful gift for any mother or grandmother.

If The Shoe Fits

If the shoe fits...
and it's comfortable...
and expensive...
don't throw it away if you scuff the toe!
A friend brought me this pair of shoes to see if there was anything I could do to fix them after the toe got scuffed.
Of course, I love a challenge. And, this was an easy one because I'm a believer that paint fixes almost everything!
So, I added painters tape to the shoes and painted the ends with Dixie Belle mineral chalk paint using the color, Midnight Sky...
I peeled up the tape and allowed the paint to dry completely...
When the paint was dry, I added 2 pieces of painters tape close together to create a stripe. I painted the stripe using a metallic gold acrylic paint...
Easy peasy!
And pretty!
