Lately, I seem to come across more and more mid century modern pieces of furniture.
I felt like I hit the jackpot when I came across this pair of mid century bar stools the Salvation Army for only $6.99 each!
One was in a little better shape than the other, but it doesn't matter when you're going to paint them!
A few days after I bought them, I saw the exact same bar stools on Facebook in a photo from 1961. You can see that vintage photo HERE. For being at least 54 years old, the stools were in great shape structurally. They just needed a face lift!
I used chalk paint from Dixie Belle Paint Company and painted the first stool white and added a gray stripe.
For the second stool, I did the reverse and painted it gray with a white stripe.
I'm so glad I chose not to paint them the same!
Now that they've had a little TLC, maybe these bar stools will last another 54 years. I can see it now...
in the year 2069, someone will come across these painted bar stools and feel like they would be perfect...
if they were stripped and stained!

Oh my gosh, I love these! I love that you painted them opposites too! So cool. They would look great in my grey kitchen. Wonderful project!
ReplyDeleteMy heavens, those stools are awesome, you did great job painting them. Smart to reverse paint job, they look fantastic that way. I went to look at photo you found of stools in 1954. I was 14 yrs. old then and those people could have been my parents with their friends. Happy New Year

Good job. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThose turned out very cute! LOL...I can imagine the same about someone stripping and staining in the future! Seems like the staining vs. painting is always rotating!

ReplyDeleteWe have a 3 of those back in the 70`s. They were brown/black. My mother have then at the kitchen counter. Great memories. Love mid-century furniture.
