Mad Hatter Tea Party Hat

My friend, Dawn, just celebrated a birthday with a mad hatter tea party thrown by her daughter, Angie. The invitation said to wear your maddest hat. I've been so excited to share my hat with you, but it was a surprise party so I've had to keep it under warps until now.

I started with this felt top hat from my local party store.

 I first added a large faux succulent and secured it with hot glue...

 I added a rubber clock sticker from Tim Holtz to the front of the hat. It didn't stick well to the hat so I added a little tacky glue to hold it in place. The tacky glue dries clear so it didn't show once it dried.

 I continued adding smaller succulents to the brim of the hat...

 I added a little hot glue and tucked moss in between the succulents...

 I added little mushrooms to the moss...

 Cute, but let's keep going!

 I was wearing my hat to a tea party, so why not add a tea pot?

I found this one at Michael's...

 I painted over the pink with red...

 Then I glued it to the top of the hat with both hot glue and E6000. The E6000 will make it the most secure but takes awhile to set up. The hot glue will make it hold quickly and allow the E6000 time to dry.

 I covered the top of the hat with moss...

 then added more mushrooms...

 The party was so much fun and I won the prize for the best hat!

Now, can someone else please have a Mad Hatter Tea Party so I can wear my hat again?!!!

Hold It! DIY Key/Necklace Holder

Create a unique place to hold your keys or necklaces with this easy to create DIY project.

I started with a pre-made pallet board from Michael's.

 I covered the pallet board with Dixie Belle's Crackle.

 Once the Crackle was completely dry, I painted the pallet board and a 6 x 6 balsa wood panel with the Dixie Belle color, Drop Cloth. 

 I added a small transfer from Iron Orchid Designs to the 6 x 6 panel.

 When the paint dried I covered the pallet board and the panel with Clear Wax then added Dixie Dirt.

 Dixie Dirt is a powder and the clear wax gives it something to stick to. I put the dirt on with a brush, then blended it in with a dry rag.

 I glued the 6 x 6 panel to the pallet board using E6000.

 Then I added rope around the panel using Tacky Glue.

 I finished it off with cup hooks.

 The pallet board had a jute cord for hanging, which I shortened so it wouldn't show. 

 Where'd I put my keys? Oh, there they are!

Valentine, You Are Hot!

 Even though this vintage style faucet handle was missing its mate, I couldn't pass it up when I found it at a yard sale. And if you only have one, of course it's better to be hot than cold!

 I created a fun and easy Valentine by first drawing a heart on a piece of reclaimed wood cut from an old fence. The I drilled a hole in the wood that was the size of the back of the handle.

 I painted the heart...

 then I painted the words, You are, onto the heart...

 I added E6000 around the back of the handle, then inserted it into the drilled hole.

 My Valentine is HOT! Is yours?
