Shabby Chic DIY Teacher Bracelet

Teach: verb; to cause or help (someone) to learn about a subject by giving lessons.

Teaching is one of the most important professions there is. Now that school is back in session, this bracelet will make a great gift for you to show your appreciation for the teachers in your child's life.

Supplies:
Bangle Bracelet
Cotton Fabric
Lace Ribbon
Pearls
Metal Blank
Dictionary
E6000 or Tacky Glue
ModPodge
Paintbrush
Pencil
Scissors
Sandpaper
Paint
Rag

Cut slits in the fabric about 1 inch apart. Tear the fabric into strips. Tear the fabric rather than cut so that the edges are frayed.

Add a dot of E6000 to the inside of the bangle. Place a strip of fabric on the glue and begin wrapping around the bangle. Secure the end of the strip on the inside of the bangle with glue. Overlap different patterns of fabric until the bangle is covered with fabric.

Wrap lace ribbon around the bangle securing with E6000.

Place the metal blank, found in the jewelry supply section of the craft store, over the word, teach, in the dictionary, trace around it with a pencil, and cut it out.

Add ModPodge to the blank with a paintbrush and adhere the paper. Smooth out any bubbles and add a top coat of ModPodge. Allow to dry and sand the edges if the paper is larger than the blank.

Use a damp rag to add a thin coat of paint, in a color that coordinates with the fabric, to the edges of the paper.

Glue the metal piece onto the bangle and add a row of pearls around it with E6000.

Other words such as love, art, joy, etc. can be used in this definition DIY project to create a variety of bracelets for any profession or personality.

Shutter Makeover With Sea Spray

I love this old shutter but wasn't crazy about the color.
So, when The Dixie Belle Paint Company asked me to test out their new product, Sea Spray, I knew that it would be perfect for the shutter makeover.
Sea Spray is a powder you add to paint to add texture to the piece you're painting. Following the package directions, I added the Sea Spray to the color Hurricane Gray, also from Dixie Belle.
Once thoroughly mixed, I painted it onto the shutter using a chip brush.

Even though I wasn't crazy about the green color, I still wanted a little of it to show through, so I didn't cover the shutter completely.
I dragged the chip brush lightly across the Sea Spray after the shutter sat for a few minutes and had started to dry. This knocked down some of the peaks and also added more texture.

Once the Sea Spray had dried completely, I painted the entire shutter with the color Drop Cloth.
When the Drop Cloth was dry, I sanded the shutter to reveal the Hurricane Gray and the original green color.

I then stenciled a French logo onto the shutter and sanded over it.
To add even more "age" to the shutter, I added Dixie Belle glazes Grunge and Black.

The shutter looks as though it has been painted many times over the years. I love the result of the Sea Spray!

Milk Can Table

A friend gave me this old milk can a couple of years ago and it has remained on my front porch ever since...

It was a great decorative piece. But, when another friend gave a small unfinished table top, I knew I wanted to add it to the milk can and make it a functional piece.
So, I stenciled a design onto the wood...
Then I went over the table top with VooDoo gel stain in the color Up In Smoke. I love this gel stain from The Dixie Belle Paint Company because it is water based. And that makes the clean up so easy!

Using the stain over the paint tones down the black a bit. Of course, you could stain first then add the black paint.

I used a little E6000 to attach the top to the can and it is the perfect little side table for my porch!
