Upcycled Piano

As I have mentioned before, I am a vendor at Junk Mama's General Store. Along with the owner, Cindy, I sell paint products from The Dixie Belle Paint Company. We had outgrown our display piece and I had planned on having my son build us a new display. That is, until I priced the supplies! It was going to be around $500!
So, I started looking at pieces of furniture we could combine to make a cool display. While at a thrift store I spotted a beautiful old piano that I thought would be perfect with a little work. But, it was $1500!!! At a thrift store!!!
Then I remembered that another junkin' friend had one she was trying to get rid of, but she had given it away the day before I called her! Yes... she GAVE it away! Lucky for me, she knew someone else with one... a FREE one! As it turns out, pianos are so incredibly heavy that no one wants to move them. So, the only way to get rid of them is to give them away. Sad, but true.
So, my husband and my son, along with 2 other men loaded my free piano onto a trailer and we brought her home.

Since she was so heavy (yes, I think the piano is a she) we left her on the trailer while my husband and son worked on her. They removed the "guts" but don't worry...they'll become part of another project.

Then they added shelves to her...

She was delivered to Junk Mama's General Store where it took my husband, son, and 2 more men to get her moved inside. She fits right in inside the old house built in 1916 that is now Junk Mama's.
Once inside, I stained the shelves...

Since she is a display for Dixie Belle Paint, she had to be at least partially painted with Dixie Belle. So, Cindy and I painted her with the color Buttercream...
See the shelf underneath?
My son built that too!
She makes the perfect display for Dixie Belle.
And, since she's been at Junk Mama's, you wouldn't believe how many people have tried to GIVE me a piano!!! Let me know if you want one and I'll send them your way!

DIY Computer Jewelry

I love a good challenge!
And, Fayette Woman gave me one for January.
Fayette Woman is a local magazine that I have been writing craft articles for since November of 2012. Every month there is a theme. Sometimes it is easy to come up with a craft that fits the theme... other times, not so much!
The theme for January... Reboot.
So, I started thinking about the discarded old computers filling our attic and had my husband bring one down.
Have you ever looked inside a computer? The colors and patterns are quite beautiful. So, I decided to recycle the computer parts into a necklace.
Here are the supplies:
Computer RAM or Other Computer "Guts"
Tin Snips
Sandpaper
Metal Hole Punch
Jump Rings
Need Nose Pliers
Charms
Necklace Chain

I picked a part of the RAM that I wanted to use for my necklace and cut it using tin snips.

I sanded the edges to make sure they were smooth.

I used a punch that is made for punching holes in metal and added a hole at the top and the bottom of the cut piece of RAM...

I placed a jump ring through each hole.

I added a beaded charm to the bottom jump ring.

I cut the chain to the desired length, added the RAM piece, then closed the chain with another jump ring.

Challenge complete!
