Pinterest Inspired Concrete Necklaces

Pinterest provides us with such great inspiration. And, when I saw some necklaces made using concrete, I knew I had to make some.

I mixed up some Rockite cement and poured it into a silicone mold. I waited for it to dry then popped the concrete out of the mold...

I placed painters tape around the "jewels" and then added copper leaf...

A jewelry bail and pretty chain finish them off to create a unique necklace!

Inspirational Art

I write a monthly craft & DIY article for a local magazine. And, each month there is a theme for the magazine. I try to create a project that goes along with the theme, but sometimes it's hard!

The theme for the April issue was Focus On Fitness. 

What craft project goes along with that?!!! You may think of something right away, but this one took me a minute!

I decided to create art to inspire people just to get started on their fitness goals. Because for me, getting started is always the hardest part.

Supplies:

Frame

Paint

Rulers/yardsticks

Rag

Scrabble Tiles

Glue Gun

I painted a thrift store frame with black paint. I then cut yardsticks to fit in the frame.

I used a damp rag to add a wash of paint to the rulers. Doing a wash instead of painting the rulers allows the measurements and words to show through.

I used a hot glue gun to add the rulers to the frame. 

I settled on an inspirational quote, then I laid out Scrabble tiles onto the framed rulers to determine the layout.

I used a hot glue gun to glue down the tiles...

DIY Phone Case Makeover

Don't throw away those worn out cell phone cases. 

Give them a makeover!

The design had started to wear off of my case, but otherwise, the case was fine...

Rather than throw it away, I gave it a coat of Dixie Belle Paint in the color, Apricot...

After 2 coats of the Apricot had dried, I added painters tape and then painted on some Pure Ocean...

Once the Pure Ocean was dry, I added more painters tape...

then I added the Dixie Belle Goo and Gold Shine...

Of course, I couldn't stop there!

I added Dixie Belle Clear Coat over the Apricot and while it was wet, I sprinkled on a little gold glitter...

Once the clear coat dried and the glitter was set, I went over the entire case with Clear Coat.

Voila! Another item saved from the landfill!
