I love it when I find scraps of wood in my husbands' workshop that I can turn into something pretty. So, when I came across some small pieces of wood that had been cut from a 2 x 4, I knew they'd be perfect for this Valentine project.
I sanded the rough edges and then painted the block of wood with Dixie Belle paint...
While the block was drying, I drew a heart on watercolor paper. I painted the heart red and then added a little black to the edges...
I let the heart dry a little, but while it was still damp, I cut it out and then crumpled it into a ball...
This gave the heart texture...
I cut pieces of scrapbook paper into squares...
I added them to the block using ModPodge, leaving a little border around the edge...
I measured twine so that it would wrap around the block twice, wrapped it around the block, and glued it to the back with hot glue...
I glued the heart over the twine and wrapped another piece of twine over the heart and glued it on the back...
Finally, I tied a bow with twine around a metal key and glued it to the heart...
I was very excited when a lady named Christina asked me to come and lead this project with a group of young ladies at her daughter's 12th birthday party. Unfortunately, I was going to be out of town during the party. So, I put together kits for the group. Christina sent me pictures from the party and all the girls did a great job on their Valentine blocks!!!
Aren't they fabulous?
I love how different each one turned out.
Good job girls!
Hopefully next time I can be there in person to join in on the fun!
