Need A Tissue...flower pot?

A great way to create custom flower pots is with tissue paper.
These were made using images found on the
 Graphics Fairy website.
Once I found the images I wanted to use, I printed them out on tissue paper (the kind you would put in a gift bag).
Cut the tissue paper larger than a piece of printer paper, wrap it around the printer paper, and tape it to the back. It's kind of like wrapping a present. Then you are able to run it through your printer.
After I painted my pots white, I tore the image out and used ModPodge to adhere the image to the pot. Then I tore pieces of plain tissue paper and covered the entire pot to give it texture.
The pots looked fine at this point but I wanted to antique them.
I used brown acrylic paint and a damp rag and rubbed it onto the pots. This is one case where you want your wrinkles to show and the brown paint helps that happen.

I recently taught a class at the shop on how to make the tissue covered flower pots...

I also taught the ladies how to make
Spoon Plant Markers like these...

I showed how to make these a couple of years ago.
If you missed it, you can learn how HERE.

  2. This is so funny we did this back in the 70's( we used printed tissue paper. You can also use rice paper napkins. But a word of advice pain the inside of pot and coat with clear acrylic paint to seal. If you don't seal they will mildew in just a short while.

  11. Your flower pots look nice indeed. I made them years ago using the top layer of paper napkins. The only problem with these flowerpots is that they soak up water and this will bleed after a while. I `sealed` my pots with varnish, just use it on the inside of the pot and the problem is solved. Kind regards from the Netherlands,
    Mac
