Cotton Pickin' Yard Sale

The small town of Gay, Georgia hosts The Cotton Pickin' Fair twice a year. I can remember going there as a young child. You can read more about it HERE.
The fair was held last weekend. One of the best things about the fair, is the yard sales set up along the roads leading to Gay. So, last Saturday, I folded all the seats in my van down into the floor (I love that feature) and headed out with $100 cash. I left my house and headed South down Highway 85. I only made it about 15 miles when I had my van loaded up with great finds/deals. And, I came home with $5 left over!

I feel like I hit the mother load!
Here's what I got...

My favorite piece has to be this vintage rocker...

or is it this antique roast beef crate?

Wait! It might be this egg crate from 1976...

I got an original oil painting with cantaloupe for $2.
I hope no one ever sells my original paintings at a yard sale for $2!!!

I bought the cutest children's card table with 4 folding metal chairs. It was given to a man and his sister for Christmas in the 1950's. And they sold it?!!! It needs a little TLC but will be so cute with a makeover.

A few months ago, I bought a platter at an antique store that had a pine cone and branch pattern. I bought a partial set of the same (or similar) pattern at one of the yard sales for $1.50! It consisted of 3 plates,1 salad plate, 2 small bowls, 1 cup, & 8 saucers. I hung 2 of the plates and the 2 bowls along with my platter above a window on my screened porch. I have a project planned for the rest of the dishes. You'll see that sometime in the future.

I bought this Coca Cola crate for $6...

I stacked it with another Coca Cola crate that I have on my screened porch.

The vintage rocker and one of the side tables are for sale in my room at Earth Mamas. I have already painted the other side table and the ladder back chair and sold them to a store owner in Senoia, GA. I'll show those makeovers soon, but for now, here's a sneak peek...

The Cotton Pickin' Fair will be held again in May. If you get a chance, make sure you take time to hit the yard sales on the way to the fair!

  1. I have never been to that fair. Ladies that I used to work with went every year. You got a lot of stuff for under $100.

We went to the South building first at Scott's today and then the north. That was my first time at the South building.

My thought exactly when I read about the original oil painting for $2! I'd hate to know if that would happen to my work!
